A SCARCE 12-BORE 1871 PATENT PUSH-FORWARD UNDERLEVER HAMMER EJECTOR GUN, serial no. 14741,
circa 1879, 30in. sleeved nitro barrels, rib engraved in gothic script 'Jno. Rigby & Co. 72. St. James's Street London AND Dublin' and '1', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, large action with carved percussion fences, rebounding sidelocks with large flat-side dolphin hammers, Rigby patent sprung 'hold-open' push forward underlever, patent no. 1098 of 26th April 1871, use number 884, fine acanthus scroll engraving with ornate bordering, brushed finish, 14 1/8in. boldly-figured stock including horn buttplate, cracks to rear of left lockplate, the fore-end with grip-catch release lever and ejector / non-ejector selector nut, minor cracks to wood, weight 6lb. 12oz.
